Self Testing is also an Option

Sure, you can grab a few test strips and check for some common water issues—but self-testing has its limits. Many kits lack accuracy, miss key contaminants, and don’t provide a full picture of what’s really in your water. Plus, without expert interpretation, those results can be misleading.

However, if you'd still like to self test below are guidelines on how to interpret test results.

Hardness (Calcium & Magnesium Levels)

Symptoms:

  • White, Chalky Scale Buildup
  • Clogged Pipes or Nozzles
  • Reduced Efficiency
  • Shortened Equipment Lifespan

Testing: 5-in-1 test strips measure grains of hardness.

Treatment:

  • Filtersorb SP3 effectively handles up to 26 grains of hardness, while most other treatments work only between 7–15 grains.

Chlorides (Corrosion Concern)

Extreme corrosion symptoms can indicate high chloride levels.

Chlorides + high temperatures accelerate corrosion in plumbing and kitchen equipment.

Testing:

  • Low-range strips (30-600 mg/L)
  • High-range strips (300-6,000 mg/L)

Copper (Blue/Green Staining)

  • Symptoms: Blue/green staining.
